In the global economy, business depends on access to a well-educated workforce with strong critical thinking, problem-solving and team-building skills. Brain research tells us that approximately 85% of the foundation for these skills is in place by the age of five.
Today’s companies also count on a reliable workforce, ready and able to focus fully while on the job. Essential to such reliability is access to affordable, quality care and education for the young children of working families – ensuring quality care that works in partnership with parents to ensure the school readiness of today’s young children.
Business has an important role to play, both as an advocate and as an investor in quality early childhood education, school readiness and workforce development. There are many ways that you, as a business leader, can demonstrate your support:
- Share your views with colleagues about why access to affordable, quality early childhood care and education makes a difference to your company’s bottom line, now and in the future.
- Meet with, call or write to your elected officials to let them know that you consider quality early childhood education to be an investment with a high rate of return for your company and for the community where your employees live and work.
- Implement family-friendly policies in the workplace for your employees.
- Provide information to help parents achieve greater work-life balance.
- Invest in children's school readiness by becoming a partner in Fairfax Futures' School Readiness Network. Whether yours is a growing business with 50 or fewer employees, or a global company doing business in the region, your contribution will ensure that early childhood educators have the knowledge they need to help support young children's success in school and throughout their lives.
