March 5, 2008 - Falls Church, VA – Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Jeffrey M. Lacker spoke to a gathering of Fairfax Futures’ business and foundation partners about early childhood education as an economic development issue at a dinner held in Falls Church on March 5, 2008. In his remarks, Lacker noted, “Human capital is critically important to economic growth at the state or metropolitan level.  Therefore, the more skilled the workforce, the more rapidly the economy grows."  Lacker went on to say, “The close relationship between skills and growth, combined with compelling evidence that early childhood education leads to better educated, more highly-skilled adults, is what makes the case for early childhood education so strong for me."

“We were delighted to be able to bring our business and foundation partners together to hear about the importance of investing in early childhood education from someone who understands the potential impact of inaction on our regional and national economy,” said Vera Steiner Blore, Fairfax Futures’ Executive Director.  “Mr. Lacker highlighted the research that suggests that current investment in quality early childhood education will yield a great return on investment down the road,” she noted.
